Explain why you’re being a champion for children
Visit the Barnardos Australia website and find out more about how your funds help support vulnerable children. Read real life stories about how we’ve found safe, nurturing homes for children suffering from neglect and abuse.

Make it personal
When asking for donations it’s important that you don’t forget who you are. Don’t hide your enthusiastic personality in your social media posts or text messages. Tell them why you’re so committed to The Champions Ride. Use the hashtag #TheChampionsRide and include a heartfelt thank you to all your supporters.

Suggest an amount to give
People feel more comfortable by being given a guide on how much to donate. It’s a good idea to let them know how much you are hoping to raise. A self-donation will kickstart your campaign and show everyone how much you care.

Share your resources
Share the link to your unique fundraising page by email and social media. You can even use the special Champions Ride Zoom background during your next meeting for a great conversation starter. Make tech your fundraising friend!

Show off
You’re putting in an incredible effort behind the scenes so be sure to share everything! Get snap-happy and show your potential donors how much time you are dedicating on your bike to making a difference for vulnerable children – it will encourage them to support your challenge.
FUNDRAISING FAQS
Got more questions about fundraising? We’ve got answers.
Where do the funds I raise go?
The funds you raise will help Barnardos Australia work together with children, young people and families to break the cycle of disadvantage and create safe nurturing and stable homes, connected to family and community.
Barnardos is one of Australia’s longest running children’s charities. We offer a range of family support programs and services to ensure all children and young people have caring families in which they can grow safely and fulfill their potential. When this is not possible, we also provide safe homes for children through foster care, kinship care and open adoption. If you would like to know more about Barnardos and the work we do, click here.
Are Donations Tax Deductible?
Anyone who donates $2 or more through your online fundraising page will automatically be emailed a tax-deductible receipt.
I've shared my page on Facebook asking for donations using the Facebook Donate button. Will the funds I raise go to Barnardos Australia?
Yes, the funds raised will go to Barnardos Australia, however, Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t sync these donations to your Champions Ride Fundraising Page. Given the limitations of Facebook, we advise you not to use the Facebook Donate button to raise funds.
If you’d like your friends and family to donate to you, we encourage you to share the link to your fundraising page on your social media pages instead.
What should I do if one of my supporters provides me with cash?
It is best to use your online fundraising link to fundraise, but if cash or cheques are received, you can deposit the money into your bank account and then donate directly onto your page using your credit card. Your total fundraising amount will then be shown on your page.
